Stopping Your Unlikely Stoppers
Luke 9:57-62
In the journey of faith, individuals often encounter unexpected challenges and obstacles that can hinder their spiritual growth and involvement within the church community. These hurdles, which we'll refer to as "unlikely stoppers," can take various forms, from personal struggles to external pressures. In this blog, we will explore some common unlikely stoppers faced by people and provide practical insights on how to overcome them, enabling individuals to stay on their path of faith and service.
Doubt and Spiritual Dryness
One of the most common unlikely stoppers for church members is doubt or spiritual dryness. It's normal for individuals to experience moments of uncertainty in their faith journey. However, persistent doubt can hinder spiritual growth. Doubt blocks the spiritual connection in which you have with God, it clouds certainty and makes you question God’s word and principles.
Busyness And Distractions
Modern life is filled with distractions and busyness, making it challenging for church members to prioritize their spiritual life. It prevents members from fully being committed to God because they are too invested in pursuing things of the flesh.
Disobedience
All we have to do is obey God, and until you fulfill that obedience fully , your connection with God cannot be complete. (John 14:15)
“If you love me you will keep my commandments “
Individuals have deviated from the rules in which God has bestowed upon us.
Conflict And Offenses
Conflict within the church community or personal offenses can be significant barriers to spiritual growth. Some Christians keep grudges against others which hinder them from a relationship with God unless they free their heart and mind.
Financial Challenges
Financial difficulties can become unexpected stoppers for church members, preventing them from contributing to the church or participating in ministry.
All these unlikely stoppers should not make Christians deviate from God, instead make them striver and yearn for Him. Some ways to promote God’s ministry and stop unlikely stoppers:
Daily Prayer and Devotion
Prayer is the cornerstone of Christian spirituality. Encourage Christians to establish a daily prayer routine. It's a direct channel to communicate with God, fostering a profound sense of connection. Suggest creating a sacred space for prayer and meditation, free from distractions, to create a tranquil atmosphere conducive to reflection and communion.
Reading Scripture
The Bible serves as a spiritual compass for Christians. Encourage regular scripture reading. It's a transformative practice that helps believers understand God's word and His plan for their lives. Joining or forming Bible study groups can provide valuable insights and foster community.
Worship And Fellowship
Attending church services and participating in worship is a communal experience that strengthens the bond between Christians and God. Encourage active involvement in a local church community, as fellowship with like-minded individuals can be a source of support and spiritual growth.
Practicing Gratitude
Gratitude is a powerful spiritual practice. Encourage Christians to keep a gratitude journal, where they can regularly reflect on the blessings in their lives. This cultivates an attitude of thankfulness, which can draw them closer to God by acknowledging His presence in their daily experiences.
Acts Of Kindness And Service
Jesus taught the importance of serving others. Engaging in acts of kindness and community service not only helps those in need but also deepens one's connection with God. Encourage Christians to seek opportunities to serve their communities, as it's a tangible way to live out their lives.
Spreading The Gospel
Christians globally should make sure to share religious teachings, beliefs, and messages with others. It is a fundamental duty for believers to, inspire faith seek moral values, and foster growth in individuals and communities. This can be encouraged through various means, including preaching, teaching, distributing religious texts, engaging in Missionary work, or using modern platforms like social media to acquire a wider audience. The goal is to teach people to live by the principles and teachings of God, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of spirituality and a stronger connection with the Most High.
(Luke 9:60)
But Jesus told him “ Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the kingdom of God.”
Seeking Spiritual Guidance
Encourage Christians to seek guidance from spiritual leaders, pastors, or mentors. These individuals can provide valuable insights, offer counsel during challenging times, and help navigate the spiritual journey.
Embracing Silence And Solitude
In our noisy world, finding moments of silence and solitude is essential. Encourage Christians to unplug from technology and spend time in quiet reflection. It's in these moments of stillness that they can better hear God's voice and experience His presence.
Embracing Challenges
The Christian journey isn't always smooth. Encourage Christians to view challenges as opportunities for growth. Trials and tribulations can deepen their faith and trust in God. Encourage them to lean on their spiritual support system during difficult times.
Conclusion
The journey to get closer to God is a deeply personal and lifelong pursuit. It requires commitment, self-reflection, and continuous effort. By following these practices and seeking support from their faith community, Christians can draw nearer to God and find spiritual fulfillment in their lives. Remember, this journey is unique for each individual, and it's important to offer encouragement, understanding, and love along the way.
